Aton Assists Baxa to Upgrade Hospital Pharmacy Product with XP Embedded SP2, Add User Features
Baxa Corporation is a dynamic and innovative OEM dedicated to building high quality, easy to use products for hospital pharmacies. Baxa’s
Exacta-Mix 2400 (EM 2400) is one of those products that solves the practical problems hospital pharmacies encounter while compounding multiple fluids for patients’
IVs. It assists the pharmacist to accurately measure and combine multiple items into a single solution.

Technical Issue to Solve
The engineering staff had already adopted Microsoft Windows XP Embedded for the EM 2400 and wanted to upgrade to Service Pack 2 and internationalize the product for French,
German, Spanish and Italian. Like many successful OEMs, Baxa had many more projects than staff could
complete in the time required. Baxa called on Aton to handle the upgrade and additional features so that the engineering staff could focus on higher priority projects.
Results Achieved
Upgrading to XP Embedded Service Pack 2 gave the EM 2400 more robust security and additional
user features to give customers greater confidence in the system. Adding support of the additional languages offered Baxa the ability to make more overseas sales.
While reviewing Baxa’s documentation for their product, Charles Wilde, CTO and Founder of Aton
International, Inc., discovered that every EM 2400 had to be returned to the factory if system updates or
changes were needed. He proposed a method to create recovery discs that could be used at the customer’s
location to update the system. This would make updating the system more practical and save Baxa thousands of dollars in staff time and expense.
During the course of this project, we encountered some unexpected technical issues which required
Baxa’s input and decisions on whether to continue working on the issue (delaying completion) or switch to
an alternative approach to complete the job. Mr. Wilde brought the issues, as soon as they became known,
to the attention of the Baxa managers for their decision. With rapid course corrections made, Aton completed the XP Embedded for the EM 2400 to the customer’s satisfaction.
