How Aton Connect for Windows Mobile Works:

Aton Connect for Windows Mobile enables access to mainframe systems such as the IBM System
z (zSeries), IBM System i (iSeries), Linux / UNIX and other systems that support the TN3270, TN5250, and Telnet Internet protocols.
It emulates the IBM 3270, IBM 5250, and VT220/VT100 series of operator terminals used with IBM mainframe enterprise servers, IBM mid-range systems, and UNIX and Linux host servers.
Aton Connect is composed of a TN3270+TN5250+Teln
et host access protocol engine (embodied as a .NET component). It connects to a Windows Mobile user interface that emulates the original green screen. It can be used as
downloaded to access host data in a way similar to the familiar desktop terminal emulators such as Aton Connect for Windows XP-Vista.
You will need a wireless or wire line TCP/IP connection such as:
802.11, IRDA, desktop cradle, GPRS, etc. Connection may be made via private LAN, VPN or Internet that supports standard Telnet
protocol (usually port 23 but is configurable). It connects to a public or private TN3270, TN5250, or Telnet
server attached to the host server. Aton Connect now has native SSL. Aton Connect is also compatible with
common VPN clients including SonicWall (Aventail), Juniper Networks, and Bluefire Security..

As an alternative, you can create a custom program using Aton Connect Host Integration Toolkit via a Visual Studio .NET
2005 “Smart Device” project, to access host data and display it on the mobile device in a way that is more natural for the user. Creating the custom program is rapid and
straightforward, because the job of retrieving and updating the mainframe data is accomplished by the Aton Connect .NET component operating inside the device. No
middleware server is required to support the Aton Connect .NET component; the communication occurs directly between the Pocket PC and the Telnet, TN3270, or TN5250
server which usually is already is in place at your enterprise.
A custom “Smart Client” can also provide the mobile worker continued access to that mainframe
data even when the Pocket PC is disconnected from the wireless network. Building “Smart Client”
applications with Aton Connect, our sample programs and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2005 is a great
way to quickly get a return on your investment for a wide range of mobility applications. Data extracted
from the host when connected can be stored on the device in a database for easy reference when a wireless connection is not available. With minimal effort, you can easily and quickly develop a phone or
device application that can access and retrieve mainframe or midrange server data and present it to the user in a modern, easy to read and use format.
The .NET component by itself can be integrated into your custom application to provide one or
multiple simultaneous host sessions. Your custom application then has total programmable control over
the user experience. Custom applications may be written in Visual C# or Visual Basic .NET using Visual
Studio 2005 Smart Device project support for Windows Mobile 2003 (on touch screen only), Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 devices.
Sample programs and instructions for using our .NET component are available as part of our Aton
Connect Host Integration Toolkit for Windows Mobile. Please Contact Us if you have questions.
