Using Aton Connect On The Desktop With A Web Solution

Most of us involved with technology on a daily basis enjoy (you might even say crave) trying the latest innovations.

We can visualize tremendous efficiencies for our companies with today’s state of the art systems. Then, we spend months, even years, creating that perfect system.

But, sometimes getting users to give up their old systems is difficult. Many users are averse to change — even when the change is better than the old system!

What can you do to help system users become comfortable with the new system? Here is a creative approach to encouraging users to learn a new system while still having access to the old one.

The Organization

A large financial organization known for its leading edge technology.

The Issue

This organization found that its staff, who had been trained on the 3270 “green screen” applications, were uncomfortable with the new web application that was recently deployed. Although the new application vastly improved the display of data from the mainframe, the workers found they were confused about how to perform their daily transactions. System users wanted a way to “double check” what they were doing.

The Solution

IT staff came up with a simple solution to give the users reassurance when using the new system by adding a pop-up window to display the “green screen” data anytime their workers want to relate use of the new web application back to the 3270 screens they were familiar with.

By using Aton’s .NET component for XP to display the familiar mainframe screens in the pop-up window, workers are able to check their own work on the new system. Because Aton Connect is a true .NET component rather than ActiveX, it is very compatible with the new system architecture. Low cost and extensive support made it an easy decision to make.
